Introduction: |
Jasmine flowers are often used to scent and add flavor to green teas. Jasmine bud tea is one of Chinese herbal tea consists solely of the small and beautiful Jasmine flowers that have yet to open. This produces a caffeine-free and sweet brew.
The use of jasmine flower began around the 1200s, originating in Persia. It is said that it grew popular when it was brought to China during the Tang Dynasty. Although the plant had only been used for decorative purposes at the beginning, once it was discovered as a therapeutic herb, it quickly grew in recognition and became a staple of trade in Asia. Today, jasmine flower continues to be one of the most popular herb available to us, widely enjoyed for both its delicate and refreshing taste as well as for the various health benefits that it can offer. It is commonly used to scent tea like jasmine pearl, jasmine silver needle or as an additive in tea like jasmine flowering tea. |
Preparation Methods: |
Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water. Use around 8 to 10 jasmine buds(2g/0.07 oz) for every 225 ml of water. Steep the jasmine buds in hot water at 90°c (194°F) to 95°c (203°F) for 2 to 4 minutes, or until the liquor turns light yellow. You may try brewing them with a bit of rock sugar. Serves well hot or cold. It is also suitable to be brewed with loose leaf green tea, white tea, black tea, pu erh, goji berry, chrysanthemum buds, honeysuckle, peppermint leaf, sweet stevia or lemongrass.
